Katelyn Wade is the owner of a cafe and bed and breakfast. However, she doesn't want people to know that she is the daughter of an notorious business man. So she hides her identity and grows her business without her father's help. But when a gunman attacks a local college campus, Katelyn's tranquil life begins to crack.
Thorn, a man hired by Katelyn's father to look after her without her knowing, is soon replaces Katelyn's bartender, Sam, who mysteriously doesn't show up to work. As things hit closer to home, Katelyn and Thorne can't help their growing attraction.
When things lies begin to unfold and secrets are revealed, who in the end can you trust with your life.
I enjoy reading mystery novels (especially ones that contain romance) but when I read His Deception I found myself getting distracted or, at times, not wanting to continue reading. The only thing that I can say I enjoyed would have to be guessing who the murderer was. However, that was all for me, that was the only true thing I enjoyed about this novel.
The automatic trust Katelyn gave Thorn was very questionable, to me at least. She didn't check anything prior to hiring Thorn as a bartender. When he suggests going away, she doesn't hesitate on going with him and leaving. There was no hesitation even when knowing that she was doing all this with a stranger, a person she doesn't know much about. Thorn didn't even open up fully about his past. How can anyone trust one person fully if that person does not open up. Besides that, there didn't really seem to be connection between both characters.
Don't get me wrong, the plot and storyline are delightful but I just found myself not enjoying this novel. Definitely not a novel for me.

Summary from Goodreads:
In an explosive novel from the bestselling author of Dangerous—hailed by Virna DePaul as “smooth, sexy, and suspenseful”—deception and desire intertwine as an undercover bodyguard gets too close to the woman he’s sworn to protect.
Tabloid drama isn’t Katelyn Wade’s style. The illegitimate daughter of a notorious tycoon, Katelyn has worked hard to build a successful business on her own terms. She doesn’t put much stock in the rumors that she’s being targeted by someone with a vendetta against her father—until one of her employees at her restaurant turns up dead. Suddenly, she can’t trust anyone. Especially not her new bartender, a man with an instinct for trouble . . . and a body made for sin.
Katelyn has no idea that Thorne Hudson is being paid to protect her. He certainly never meant to seduce her. Crossing professional lines never ends well, especially when the slightest distraction could put both their lives at risk. But even Thorne’s military resolve, honed by years of training, is no match for Katelyn’s undeniable sex appeal. And after one taste of her lush lips pushes him past the edge of temptation, Thorne aches to tell her the truth—just as soon as he knows she’s safe from harm.
